Bus and Ferry Etiquette
When travelling with Newcastle Buses & Ferries, please be respectful of other passengers by being aware of the following:
Offer your seat to those who need it more than you. If you see someone who is elderly, pregnant, mobility impaired or disabled, you must offer them your seat. Special reserve seating is provided for elderly and disabled passengers at the front of the vehicle.- Give up the designated wheelchair seats for passengers in wheelchairs.
- Allow passengers to alight before boarding.
- Do not distract the driver or interfere with the operation of the vehicle in any way.
- If there are no seats, move to the back of the bus to improve driver vision.
- Do not place bags on seats. Use the luggage racks where possible.
- Do not block doorways with yourself or any belongings and allow fellow passengers room to move if they are alighting the vehicle.
- Do not put your feet on the seats – fines apply.
- Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
- If you need to speak on your mobile phone, keep your tone to a minimum level, so as not to disturb others around you.
- If listening to music, use headphones and be aware of the volume.
- Do not use offensive language.
- Do not eat or drink on the vehicle - fines apply.
- Be aware of your bags.
- Take your rubbish with you.
