Pensioner Excursion Ticket (PET)

The Pensioner Excursion Ticket (PET) provides eligible concession holders with an all-day ticket that provides unlimited travel on buses, trains and ferries within a broad area in NSW for only $ 2.50.

Tickets are valid until 4am the following day.

The ticket can be used for travel on:

You can now buy your Pensioner Excursion tickets before you travel.  Tickets sold from State Transit ticket agents become valid when first used.

Who is eligible to use a PET?

Pensioner Excursion Tickets are available to people holding:

  • Centrelink pensioner concession cards
  • NSW Seniors Cards
  • NSW or Victorian War Widow (or Widower) concession cards.

Limitations

Pensioner Excursion Tickets cannot be used:

  • on Sydney Explorer Buses
  • on Bondi Explorer Buses
  • on Special Event buses
  • on Manly JetCat
  • to access or exit Sydney Airport Link stations at Green Square, Mascot, Domestic or International Terminals. An additional station access fee must be paid.

How to use a PET

  • On Newcastle Buses and Ferries, insert your ticket into the green machine on the bus or ferry.
  • On CityRail trains, insert the ticket into the automatic gates. Where there are no gates, show the ticket to the CityRail attendant.
  • On Sydney Buses, insert your ticket into the green machine on the bus.
  • On Sydney Ferries, insert your ticket into the turnstile or present it to the deckhand on-board.
  • On Private buses, tickets can either be used as a flash pass, or dipped into their validating machines upon boarding the bus.

Short distance travel

Concession time based tickets can also be used by NSW concession card holders for travel over short distances.  This can be cheaper than using a PET.

The all-day Pensioner Excursion Ticket is provided as a concession for pensioners and eligible seniors. Note concession TimeTen tickets cannot be used.
